    Themice,SniffandScurry,possessingonlysimplerodentbrains,butgoodinstincts,searchedforthehardnibblingcheesetheyliked,asmice

    TheMazewasalabyrinthofcorridorsandchambers,somecontainingdeliciouscheese.Buttherewerealsodarkcornersandblindalleys

    leadingnowhere.Itwasaneasyplaceforanyonetogetlost.

    However,forthosewhofoundtheirway,theMazeheldsecretsthatletthemenjoyabetterlife.

    Themice,SniffandScurry,usedasimpletrial-and-errormethodoffindingcheese.Theyrandownonecorridorand,ifitprovedempty,they

    turnedandrandownanother.Theyrememberedthecorridorsthatheldnocheeseandquicklywentintonewareas.

    Sniffwouldsmelloutthegeneraldirectionofthecheese,usinghisgreatnose,andScurrywouldraceahead.Theygotlost,asyoumight

    expect,wentoffinthewrongdirectionandoftenbumpedintowalls.Butafterawhile,theyfoundtheirway.

    Hawjustshookhisheadindisbelief.He,too,hadcountedonfindingCheeseatCheeseStationC.Hestoodthereforalongtime,frozenwith

    shock.Hewasjustnotreadyforthis.

    Hemwasyellingsomething,butHawdidn'twanttohearit.Hedidn'twanttodealwithwhatwasfacinghim,sohejusttunedeverythingout.

    Thelittlepeople'sbehaviorwasnotveryattractiveorproductive,butitwasunderstandable.

    FindingCheesewasn'teasy,anditmeantagreatdealmoretothelittlepeoplethanjusthavingenoughofittoeateveryday.
